Principles and Conduct

Membership applications may be approved only after pledging to strive to adhere to the Principles of Conduct. Traditional Karate claims the goal of not victory nor defeat, but in the perfection of the character of the participants. With this in mind, Gichin Funakoshi developed the DOJO KUN (Precepts of Karate Training):
  • Seek Perfection of Character
  • Be Faithful
  • Endeavor
  • Respect others
  • Refrain from Violent Behavior

All members must strive to practice these precepts when in the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association or FSKA function/event and outside the dojo, (though it is a precept that everyone should strive to always follow.)

These precepts imply the following on this list:
To be a good individual, one must have a good character.
Be truthful, honest and realistic, true to life.
Keep trying no matter what it takes to do your best. (Try, try, if all else fails, try again)
Respect others, property and yourself - be courteous.
Conduct yourself in an orderly manner and to others, keep calm.
